Since July, Wacom had updated a lot of time its driver for graphic tablets (Cintiq, Companion and Pro). After  the 6.3.13W3, the bla bla bla, the last one is 6.3.14-2 (14-2 only for US – in Europe it’s 14-1). And there are a lot of changes.

If you want to know how to get the new driver before it is on line on the Wacom Website, it’s easy : just launch Wacom Desktop Center. We note that the new driver appears first in the Wacom app and a few days after on the Website.

You can read below what is new in the two last drivers.

Improvements/bug fixes:

Significant improvements and changes have been made to the On-Screen Control panel functionality, including:

  • The Radial Menu has been replaced by a radial layout for On-Screen Control panels. Existing Radial Menu settings will be converted.
  • Repeat button function is now available for On-Screen Control panels
  • The Touch Strip option has been removed. Existing Touch Strip settings will be converted to buttons.
  • Most Intuos, Intuos Pro, Cintiq and Cintiq Companion now support On-Screen Controls
  • Other enhancements and bug fixes

Ensure to back up your preferences with the Wacom Utility before installing the new driver version

In fact, what is really change, that is the weight of the driver. It losted 80 mos! Juste look for 2 DMG : our 6.3.13W3 and the driver before, 6.3.11-3A… 83 mos for 145 mos. After install, you get almost 140 mos against  more 200 mos!

Answer is easy. Some files disappear from folder Tablette Wacom (in french).

In fact all files about Help were removed. We talked about these useless files in this french post in november 2014. Theses files were opened with Java, but there is a bug on Yosemite.

No need to make the translation, just look for the pix (remember Wacom.Help and wuhres.tar.gz )

We were right. We also noted that Wacom Desktop Centre was coded by newbies because Interface Builder was used to create the app (because when you begin Coca/Objectif-C with X-code, you really begin :)).

Otherwise the new stuffs are On-Screen Control panels.  These pannels appeared for the first time in Cintiq Companion’s driver. Very useful for touch screens et small screens and very cool for big screens and for people who love multiple shorcuts. We talked about that in our french mini test of Cintiq Companion (second part). You can create many buttons on a vertical ou horizontal menu. You have two icons on the bottom right. If the Ping stand right, that means the panel will be always here. If the Ping is grey and obliquely, that means if you click on your button, the floating panel will disappears. You can also close this pannel by clicking on the cross. Of course you can move the pannel where you want on your screen. Now the radial menu belongs to this category of panel. You have 5 different panels : horizontal and vertical panels with a single or two lines, and our old radial menu. To activate the pannel, just choose it to give a function to an ExpressKey.

The only change compared to Cintiq companion’driver is the icon on the window’s driver. It’s the same. On Cintiq Companion icon changes according to your choice. Don’t understand why Wacom haven’t done the same thing. Another different thing : in Cintiq Companion’s driver we have an additional panel that looks as a Touch Strip.

Focus on these On-Screen Control panels.

If you install manually the driver (not by Wacom Destokp Center), think to save you prefs.
